Addiction Medicine Program – Substance Use (AMP-SU)

Homewood's flagship hospital-based addiction stream: a six-week, abstinence-focused inpatient program pairing 24/7 medical care and withdrawal management with a physician-led interdisciplinary team. The stay moves from assessment, medically supported withdrawal and stabilization into active treatment and recovery planning, with therapeutic groups and education targeting substance cues, relapse behaviours and a more balanced lifestyle; the 211 record describes a third phase of aftercare and relapse prevention. Co-occurring illnesses — addiction with PTSD or with mood and anxiety disorders — are treated within the program, and family and friends are brought into the support system as each patient's needs dictate. Reported outcomes: 86% of patients showed reduced substance cravings at discharge and 96% said the program met their needs.

OHIP-funded for Ontario residents with a valid health card as a specialized elective program at no treatment cost, though daily accommodation fees apply (often covered by employer medical or disability insurance and potentially tax-claimable). A nine-week inpatient concurrent-disorders program built for people whose mental health and substance use are tangled together — the centre's explicitly dual-diagnosis stream. Care runs through withdrawal management, stabilization, skill-building, medication optimization and discharge planning using the CBT Unified Protocol for transdiagnostic treatment of emotional disorders in small groups, backed by 1:1 therapy, physician oversight and measurement-based care within a bio-psycho-social-spiritual, peer-supported model. Music, recreation and horticulture therapy round out the clinical core. Reported outcomes: 87% of patients experienced reduced substance cravings and 95% would recommend the program.

Integrated Mood, Anxiety and Addictions Concurrent Program – Plus

Adults with mood/anxiety disorders and possible problematic substance use who also have mild cognitive dysfunction and need an adapted pace · 12 weeks (inpatient, modified pace) · Guelph, ON (150 Delhi Street campus)

A twelve-week adaptation of the IMAAC concurrent program, delivered at a slower pace for patients whose mild cognitive dysfunction would make the standard format too demanding. Introductory CBT arrives in smaller, concrete, simplified chunks; medical withdrawal management, one-on-one therapist sessions and peer-supported community living remain, with optional access to interventional psychiatry (rTMS, ECT, IV therapy) and holistic modalities such as music, recreation and horticulture therapy.

Mood, Anxiety, Substance Treatment & Recovery Service (MASTRS)

Mature adults with mental health and addiction challenges, including those with physical comorbidities, cognitive deficits, or aging- and neurodegenerative-related impairments · Guelph, ON (150 Delhi Street campus)

An inpatient stream for older adults that takes the patients most traditional mental-health and addiction programs screen out — those with physical comorbidities and cognitive deficits. Treatment goals are set collaboratively between the patient and a physician-led interdisciplinary team, aiming at the highest achievable independence, well-being and understanding of illness across life-stage changes. Reported outcome: 89% of patients showed overall improvement (2022 assessment data).

Guardians Program

First responders, military personnel and veterans living with anxiety, depression, substance use disorder and/or trauma impacts (PTSD, operational stress) · Guelph, ON (dedicated unit, 150 Delhi Street campus)

A dedicated inpatient unit where first responders, military members and veterans live and heal alongside peers, with Guardians-only programming that treats trauma and addiction whether they arrive separately or as concurrent disorders. Individual work uses Cognitive Processing Therapy or CBT, layered with DBT skills groups, the Unified Protocol for co-occurring emotional challenges, and group sessions built around occupational realities of the uniformed professions. Homewood partners with Warrior Health to serve Ontario Public Safety Personnel and their families, and virtual care is available through Therapy@Home. Reported outcomes: 80% showed marked PTSD-symptom improvement at completion and 96% overall satisfaction. Veterans Affairs Canada and RCMP health identification cards are accepted for funding.

Healthcare Provider Stream

Front-line health care workers living with mental health and/or addiction issues · Guelph, ON (delivered within Homewood's inpatient programs)

Not a standalone unit but an enhancement layer: specialized programming that runs alongside the Addiction Medicine Program, the IMAAC concurrent program and other inpatient streams to address what front-line healthcare workers carry into treatment. Content is grounded in Homewood Research Institute findings on the mental-health toll of front-line care, including COVID-19 impacts.

Women's Trauma & Concurrent Program

Self-identified women (cis or transgender) and non-binary/gender-queer individuals comfortable in a women-identified setting · 9 weeks (intensive inpatient) · Guelph, ON (150 Delhi Street campus)

A nine-week intensive inpatient program treating traumatic stress injuries, including PTSD, with substance use disorder treatment woven in as required — trauma and addiction addressed in one gender-responsive setting rather than sequentially. The clinical spine is weekly individual physician sessions and roughly twice-weekly Cognitive Processing Therapy, with group programming in DBT and substance-use recovery processing, inside a holistic model spanning physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Reported outcomes: nearly 80% showed marked improvement in depression symptoms, with 100% overall program satisfaction.

Traumatic Stress Injury & Concurrent Program – Cornerstone

Adults 18+ struggling with trauma symptoms or with concurrent trauma and addiction · 9 weeks (inpatient) · Guelph, ON (150 Delhi Street campus)

A nine-week, medically based inpatient program for adults whose traumatic stress injuries arrive alone or entangled with addiction. Twice-weekly individual Cognitive Processing Therapy sessions help patients explore, challenge and change trauma-related beliefs, while regular DBT skills groups build distress tolerance, emotion regulation and mindfulness — all directed by a physician-led multidisciplinary team addressing the physical, psychological and social dimensions of trauma on the 50-acre Guelph campus.
